Transportation

Our vision for Oneida County: To increase transportation options that connect people to social activities, economic opportunities, and medical care. To offer convenient, accessible, low-cost alternatives to driving.

Highlights

Examples of age-friendly work in Oneida County in the transportation domain of livability include:

  • A Mobility Specialist was hired to educate, update, and advocate for Oneida County residents on transportation resources and options.
  • In partnership with the Oneida County Office for Aging and Continuing Care, 50 Forward MV provides non-emergency medical transportation to Oneida County residents using volunteer drivers.
  • The Herkimer-Oneida Counties Transportation Council (HOCTC) developed a comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian trail guide for Oneida County.

Work Group

To address transportation issues of older adults in Onedia County, the HOCTC Transportation Coordination Committee serves as the work group for the Livable Communities of Oneida County initiative.
